Predictions for "The Constant"

As far as I can tell this is gonna be a Desmond-centric episode. My guess is that he goes back in time again and I say this because there was a clip in one of the previews of Desmond with short hair and all cleaned up. There might not even be a flash-forward. The producers have said that by episode 7 of this season we'll know all of the Oceanic 6, so that means we either won't discover one this time or we won't discover one next week.

I also predict that Fisher Stevens will not have a horribly fake Middle Eastern accent.

"With excitement like this, who is needing enemas?"

I predict the opposite. Desmond will be having flashforwards and it looks like he chats up Faraday with a pony tail in front of a Doc Brown Chalk board.

I hoping that they use this ep to establish the time travel grounds rules.

For example, Charlie talking to Penny before he died, when she didn't know anything about the boat...it's because he was talking to Penny in Her past, before we see her get the call from the listening station.

Just saying

Well, it seems like talking to people off the island happens in real time. When Faraday talks to the people on the freighter he doesn't wait 31 minutes for their answer. So I think sound waves have no problem moving through the electromagnetic field. I wonder if it's the same for light waves. That would be interesting. A visual projection of something would get to the island before the actual object. Although, if that were the case, we would have seen a spectral clock from the ship arrive 31 minutes before the actual clock.

Heavy.

I love all the Des episodes. The finale for S2 is one of my favorites of the whole series. I love his saying see you in another life, brother.

I don't think there is any real time traveling going on. I think it is a consciousness shift. So his "Present" consciousness has become aware in his own past. So perhaps Des becomes aware in his own future. But I think this ep is going to be a flash back...not a flash forward.

Could be wrong, have been before.

There is time travelling going on. Damon and Carlton confirmed it in the podcast from February 20th, last year.

And usually I'm the one quoting the Podcasts.

It has been confirmed that time traveling is happening but Desmond didn't displace his previous self in the past, he Quantum Leaped in Sam Beckett style.

Keep in mind they have been on the island for 90 some days in 2004. The boat is arriving to the island (at the same time) from some point in 2006 as the funeral Jack went to took place in April 2007.

Charlie answered an incoming transmission from Penny, which due to some time delay, was sent from the relative past before she (or her father) sent the boat.

Also, flux capacitor.

Just needed to be said.

See, I was gonna wait until it was appropriate to stick in 1.21 gigawatts and Libyan nationalists, but I guess blurting out Back to the Future references works too.

I do agree with your Quantum Leap idea, though. Either that or his life was rewound, so to speak, so it was the same timeline he had been living, but he got to re-record over the past 10 years.

Well...I'd say that episdoe sums up the whole time traveling issue...

Now please allow me to quote and gloat...

"I don't think there is any real time traveling going on. I think it is a consciousness shift. So his "Present" consciousness has become aware in his own past. So perhaps Des becomes aware in his own future. But I think this ep is going to be a flash back...not a flash forward."

I don't read spoilers and I don't write for the show...yet.

BEST EPISODE EVER!!!!!

While it's sort of two sides of the same coin, I'm gonna have to agree with Shaun, Dan. Quantum leap. If he became aware of his past or future, he wouldn't leave his body like that, he would just know things. And there was no flash back, there was leaping back to the past and then back to the future.

Oh! Did you see that segue?!

It was the best episode yet. I fucking love Desmond-centric episodes. Locke's my man, but Desmond's story kicks ass.

I've been thinking a ton about this episode and seriously don't know when I will sleep.

Did Desmond know going into the storm that this was going to be the moment that his past self went to the future? Or had the Desmond we were first introduced to not traveled into the future from his past until now?

I've now written a ton right here in this spot that I keep deleting, because I keep disproving my own theory by the end of the thought.

I am leaning towards Desmond remembers traveling into the future 8 years ago. I have some evidence, but it isn't enough right now to really make my argument. I am going to have to watch every scene with Sayid and Desmond together.

But I am not going to do that tonight...it is 2-sumthin and I started this post at 12:30ish...time for bed...and dreams of cats both alive and dead in boxes, particles and waves interacting with each other even though intervals of time have elapsed, and of course CTCs.

Or just read Brief History.

Shit.

They were flashbacks (or technically flashforwards as it was the 1996 Desmond doing the time traveling).

WTF. The boat is also in 2004? He told Pen he would call her Dec 24 2004 and she answered (except with the time zone diff between Figi & London it would have been the 25th for one of them).

Neither Faraday or Desmond remember meeting in 1996 yet Faraday has written in his Journal a reference to the past meeting (reminding himself that Des will be his constant).

Kinda interesting that Pen's dad bought the Blackrock's 1st mates journal back in 1996. That would give him time to chart the course for either the Christiane 1 or the Helgus freighter.

Oh, and Juliet's boyfriend, Fisher Stevens is already dead. Too bad, so sad.
