Sweet! I've got some blogs from the myspace about how the Oceanic 6 are representations of the Numbers. I'll repost here later tonight.

No, really, that's okay.

Like Communism...the numbers are a Red Herring.

Roger Workman said...

Sure, the numbers are a red herring.

Except only 6 people make it off the island as the complete opposite of how they came to the island (changed variables), and only 6 people from the tail section (second control group) made it across the island before all being eliminated from the equation.

The Oceanic Six ARE the Valenzetti Equation being played out. The passengers of Flight 815 (8+15 = 23 or evil) are the "bad people" that Jacob / Others are providing protection from.

The Six are "needed" to return to island as changed variables and forestall the end of man.

Believe it.

I don't know where you get that 23 is an evil number. I think it's just apophenia on your part. If you keep adding the numbers, you actually get 5 (2+3=5), and if you add up The Numbers you get 9 (4+8+15+16+23+42=108, 1+0+8=9), and as far as I can tell, 5 and 9 have nothing to do with anything.

You're going to have to come up with a better argument. I could argue that 815 follows the Law of Fives and that Kate shouldn't technically be considered part of the Oceanic 6 or be compensated by the settlement because she didn't choose to be on the plane. So that makes an Oceanic 5. With enough bullshit, you can attribute meaning to anything.

Oh yeah?

Want to bet the Oceanic 6 leave the island 108 days after the crash?

Okay my friends I will now explain the numbers...

In an interview during season one, Damon Lindelof was asked about the significance of the numbers. He just mentioned that anyone who was a fan of Robert Anton Wilson would know what 23 is about.

I happen to have been a fan of Bob for a long time. In the Illuminatus Trilogy the number 23 has a huge significance. It pops up everywhere, it seems to be the key to the whole thing for the bulk of the books. Then you get to the end...I am sorry to ruin this little part if you haven't read it, but it is very important considering Damon's comment. You find out at the end of the book that the number 23 has NO significance, no effect on the story and is just a NUMBER.

If you decide to read Illuminatus, let me say read at your own risk. First time I read it, it took me 8 months and broke my mind.
